BOARD OF DIRECTORS
KINSTON CHARTER ACADEMY (KCA) is governed by a volunteer board of directors. The North Carolina Charter School Act places final responsibly for operations of the school on its governing board of directors. KCA's board meets the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Room, at the school, located at 2000 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Kinston, North Carolina. The meetings are open to the public. Each board meeting has public comment period. Parents and the general public are invited. Public comment requires sign-up at the beginning of the meeting. The board member are:
Demyra R. McDonald Hall
Chairman of the Board
Ms. Hall is a licensed Attorney and President of McDonald Law Offices, P.C. She holds a Juris Doctor degree from Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Texas. Mrs. Hall also holds undergraduate degrees from Lenoir Community College and Hampton University. Ms. Hall has served on the board since the school was founded and has held the position of Secretary and Chairman.
Linda McKnight
Board Secretary
Ms. McKnight is a Housing Counselor with the Rural Center. Ms. McKnight has served in various capacities on the board since the school was founded. Ms. McKnight has been committed to making the school successful and has worked diligently toward that end.
Dr. David A. Gabbard
Board Member
Dr. Gabbard is a Professor of Education in the College of Education, East Carolina University. Dr. Gabbard is a distinguished author and scholar with an extensive career in research, writing, and teaching on educational topics. Dr. Gabbard's extensive background in curriculum and instruction is a valuable resource for the school. Dr. Gabbard has volunteered time at the school providing staff development, and helped the school in many other ways. Dr. Gabbard has served on the board for 3 years.
Corey Lawson
Board Member
Mr. Lawson holds a Master Degree is Public Health Administration. He is the founder and former owner of Precision Behavioral Health. Mr. Lawson is an entrepreneur and brings a wealth of knowledge to the board regarding student behavioral health issues and extensive business experience.
Ozie Lee Hall, Jr.
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Hall has over 20 years of experience in education as both an educator and educational advocate. Mr. Hall hold a Master of Science Degree in Administration and Master of Arts in Education. Mr. Hall serves as the school administrator and is a non-voting member of the board.
